Care homes up and down the country are preparing for Care Home Open Day 2020 on 26th June for what will be the eighth year in a row.
The theme this year is music, which encompasses all manner of music, arts, innovation and technology. The Care Home Open Day team has several ideas for those looking to mark the occasion on a small or large scale.
Almost 44% of care homes have a pub or private drinking facility in them, and many more have in-house choirs, art galleries, post offices, hairdressers and much more, all open to the public. Care Home Open Day is about sharing these initiatives and encouraging interaction between the local community and care services, so that everyone can see the valuable contribution that care homes provide to residents and the public.
Hilary Woodhead, Executive Director at National Activity Providers Association (NAPA) says, 'Care Home Open Day is the perfect opportunity to make friends with a local care home. I think that many people will be amazed at what’s on offer; every home and every day is different.'
Professor Martin Green OBE, Chief Executive of Care England, says, 'Now well established, Care Home Open Day is a real marker in the calendar. Care homes really are the hub of their communities, let’s keep it that way and continue to connect. The immense innovation throughout the sector needs to be showcased and enjoyed. There is a link between music therapy and dementia and this needs to be made more widely known; Care Home Open Day is the perfect vehicle to do so.'
Vic Rayner, Chief Executive of National Care Forum (NCF) says, 'I’m really excited about Care Home Open Day! There are so many creative ways in which music has become centre stage within homes. Get planning now - and get your care home firmly on the map on this June.'
Care Home Open Day 2020, in partnership with Care England, NAPA and NCF, will take place on 26th June 2020. For more information please visit the website of any participating association or follow @carehomeopenday on Twitter.
