The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) is looking for members to join its social care subgroup for the dementia guideline update. The guideline Dementia - assessment, management and support for people living with dementia and their carers is expected to be published in August 2017.

NICE is looking for:

  • Social care providers – people with current experience of managing services for people living with dementia in the voluntary, independent or local authority sector; and in large and small providers (including homecare, supported housing and care homes); and people who can provide a national perspective.
  • Social care staff – people with recent direct experience of frontline social care provision for people living with dementia, particularly in assessment and care management/co-ordination. This category could include people who work for a homecare agency or in a residential care home, and those who provide advice and support for the person using social care services, which may include dementia support workers, dementia advisers, and activity co-ordinators.
  • Local authority staff/managers who are involved in care planning and commissioning social care and support for people living with dementia. This might include people working in integrated teams or in pioneering integrated working.
  • Social care practitioners who work in a national body with an interest in dementia care and support and who can provide a voluntary sector or advocacy perspective with an understanding of dementia-friendly environments.
  • Representation from the Care Quality Commission with experience of the monitoring, inspection and regulation of services for people living with dementia.

NICE is also recruiting lay members for this committee. These are people with an understanding of social care for people with dementia and the issues important to people using services and their unpaid carers, gained:

  • through personal experience of treatment and care provided by the NHS or social care services within the last two years.
  • as a relative or unpaid carer of someone who has used relevant health or social care services within the last two years.
  • as a volunteer or employee of a relevant voluntary organisation or support group.

The closing date for applications to be involved in the dementia guideline update is 5pm on Monday 6th June 2016
