Last Updated on July 28, 2023

We are delighted to announce the return of The Markel 3rd Sector Care Awards. The ceremony will be held on Friday 15th March 2024 at The Grand Hotel, Birmingham.

We are very excited to be organising this event once again, but this time it feels extra special. This is the tenth ceremony since the Awards started back in 2014 and we can’t wait to hear more amazing stories from our finalists and winners.

Another reason to celebrate

As part of the tenth anniversary celebrations, we recently caught up with one of the winners from the inaugural Awards ceremony.

Jo Boddington won the Community Engagement Award for the work of Bodster Equine Assisted Learning Centre on the Isle Wight, where people develop a range of skills, improving their self-esteem, understanding their own behaviour and increasing their emotional intelligence in a supervised horse environment.

Fast forward to 2023, and our winners were awarded during a wonderful daytime ceremony on 3rd March.

About the Awards

The Markel 3rd Sector Care Awards are designed to reward the hard work, dedication, innovation and excellence of everyone working in the not-for-profit sector who is making a positive difference to people’s lives, whether they are supporting children or adults.

Organised by CMM, and developed in conjunction with the National Care Forum, the Awards are the perfect way to share the work you’ve been doing to support those who need it most.

Markel will once again be the headline sponsor of the Markel 3rd Sector Care Awards. Markel provides specialist insurance, legal, tax and consultancy services and is a dedicated supporter of the care sector, with over 10,000 charity and third sector clients.

Who can enter?

Anyone can enter themselves or nominate someone else in one of our categories – no matter what their position in an organisation.

Past entries have included services that help homeless people to reach their goals; organisations that offer safe homes for children who would otherwise go into short-term foster care; hospices supporting people with cancer; care home accountants who have gone the extra mile to support residents; and chief executives who are leading their staff towards more fulfilling lives – for themselves and the people they support.

If you still need convincing that entering the Awards is a good idea, the key benefits of entering the Markel 3rd Sector Care Awards include:

  • Building relationships.
  • Sharing your achievements.
  • Being featured in CMM.
  • Expanding your reach.
  • Connecting with the wider sector.
  • Free access to Markel Law Hub.

Making a nomination

If you would like to nominate a person or team to be considered for an Award, follow the process on our dedicated web page when nominations open on Friday 1st September 2023. Time is of the essence as nominations will close on Friday 27th October 2023.

Deciding our winners

The Markel 3rd Sector Care Awards judging process has two stages:

  • Eligible nominations will be passed to our panel, including experts by experience, for shortlisting. Three finalists will be selected for each category.
  • If you are shortlisted, you will be invited to attend an online interview, where you’ll meet a panel of judges to discuss what you do. It’s nothing to be worried about – all our judges and experts are there to support you and have a genuine interest in your work. You must be available to attend this interview for your entry to continue in the process.

Winners will be announced at the lunchtime Awards ceremony on Friday 15th March at The Grand Hotel, Birmingham. All finalists are given two free tickets to attend the event, where a three-course lunch will be served alongside entertainment from people with lived experience of using the services of third sector organisations.
